Hello, I’m Shoshana Berger
Senior Director, Design for Learning
Full Bio
An overeducated liberal arts major, I got my start as a writer for a magazine called Bikini (no jokes) for whom I interviewed Jeff Buckley and Allen Ginsburg. That led to writing for the New York Times, SPIN, WIRED, and a stint as the editorial director (more like “cool-hunter”) for Young & Rubicam. With little more than a fuzzy idea and a boil in the blood, I went on to found ReadyMade, a national do-it-yourself design magazine. The venture was funded by 10 credit cards. (My credit rating is excellent). ReadyMade was a finalist for National Magazine Awards in 2005 and 2006. After co-authoring the book ReadyMade: How to Make Almost Everything (Clarkson Potter), we sold the business to the Meredith Corp., publisher of Better Homes & Gardens. I then joined WIRED as senior editor in 2011, founding and editing WIRED Design. But, with the future of print looking dubious, I fled for IDEO in 2013 and have since been the happy editorial director of this magical island.
The ReadyMade tagline—Make Stuff—is what gets me out of bed in the morning.
